Silent Christmas Carol.

Yesterday I had the challenge to create a Silent Christmas Carol. It was only supposed to be 30 seconds. Look at the movie above and see if you could figure it out, first one to guess it wins a chocolate.

The last days of school......

WOW. Everything flashed by in an instant. Term 4 of my very last year of being a year 6 student. I can see kids carrying furniture, year 3&4 playing games on the field, what a great way to finish the last days of school. Looking ahead I see teacher aids helping out, seniors running with tables. What else is there to look forward to?

On my right I can see senior students, having a great time teaching the younger ones games. In the corner of my eye I see a classroom that was just built, what lucky student that are going to stay in there right?

2013 Reflection.

Malo E Lelei, Talofa and greetings to you all, 2013 has nearly came to a end, so lets find out how 2013 has been for Lesieli.......

My Teachers are awesome I have 3 ( Mr Marks, Mr Somerville, and Mrs Tele'a, so it is pretty much like having 3 expert teachers. I find it helpful that I have 3 teachers, cause they give me the most helpful tips, that anyone could ever teach me. This year my teachers have taught me loads of new and creative things, adding on to the things that I already know.

While I read, I find out about a whole bunch of other topics, like how things work and what things do. In maths, this year, the new strategies and the new facts have been tremendously challenging which I think is awesome because over the year, I am learning to be a successful Problem Solver.

My teachers have been really good at explaining skills. One thing important that we have learnt, was learning how to solve different problems. I have also become confident in different areas, being a ambassador has including presenting, editing, producing, filming and animating.

Two of the people that I look up to as a inspiration are Mr and Mrs Burt. These two experts have helped to over come my fears of being in front of a huge crowd. They started off as teachers in a classroom and now, Mrs Burt is travelling around New Zealand telling people about our digital devises, Being the leader of the Manakalani programme. What can I say? And on the other hand Mr Burt is a school principal, there would have been times where they wanted to give up, but they kept going.

My friends this year have taught me a lot as well…I am very blessed to have such good friends. At the beginning of the year, I felt weird working with year 5s and 6s, but now that I know them very well it seems like I have known them for a million years. I think that I have helped other kids with my blog. I try to post 2-4 times a week and I am sure that some kids read it. At times I also try to be a good role model to the younger ones.

I have really enjoyed 2013. It has been a year full of learning, challenges, creating and loads of fun. I have the best friends that could ever be. Thanks teachers for the great 2013. Thanks for the great year year 5s.

2013 Netbook Reflection {Final}

Before.

The 21st century has more modern ways to learn. For example, the Manaiakalani cluster schools now use  netbooks. The basic way to explain this, we have gone digital.

As a year 6 student of Pt England, I have had my netbook for a period of 3 years, and to be honest I have no clue what education was like before that. As well as it being our school digital device, it has been in the homes of students, bags and other places. Whether it was for education, freetime, television or communication.

In the past 4 terms, our 3 teachers in our classrooms  have been teaching us all kinds of things. Whether it to do with Maths, Reading or Writing. This year there was one significant  thing that I learnt and that was what our year 6 ambassadors do, being seen around the world.

The number one thing that I like about my awesome, netbook is that I can learn from the internet. At times when I am bored, I enjoy learning how to play different songs on the online piano. Fantastic!  I learn At  any Pace, At any Place and from anyone, And that anyone is definitely the internet.

This digital device, has helped me to improve on my key competencies. Working with others is so easy to do, sharing docs, presentation, spreadsheets and working together to finish out work.

Drawing and paintings are boring but, with the help of  our digital devices we are able to create a visual image, movie, animation simply by using applications, on our devices

This year there was one significant  thing that I learnt and that was what our year 6 ambassadors do, is being seen around the world. Which means, our ambassadors are not just seen by visitors that they present to, they are seen by the global world. Which I think is significant.

The number one thing that I like about my awesome, netbook is that I can learn from the internet. At times when I am bored, I enjoy learning how to play different songs on the online piano. Fantastic!  I learn At  any Pace, At any Place and from anyone, And that anyone is definitely the internet.

Using netbooks in these past few years has helped me be able to become better at all my learning subjects. Our netbooks, are all connect to the internet at school, and it might be for most of us at home too. The TLN enables all the student that live in the area to connect, to the network at home.

Learning things from the young students has been a pleasure. I mean learning how to play minecraft, from a student younger than you, isn't that just amazing? This year, I have learnt a whole bunch of things, learning Speech with Mr S and Mr Marks, Getting taught our prize giving item from students, what can I say?

This digital device, has helped me to improve on my key competencies. Working with others is so easy to do, sharing docs, presentation, spreadsheets and working together to finish our work. Drawing and paintings are boring but, with the help of  our digital devices we are able to create a visual image, movie, animation simply by using applications, on our devices.

Having the opportunity to be creative is awesome. If you visit our school you see a lot of drawings/paintings around the school. Creating images have been great, making movies and animating on it is amazing too. It has been a pleasure to have digital devices that has drawing apps.

The past 3 years, have been the most best 3 years of my life. I mean working digitally and having the chance to be creative has been a wonderful opportunity. Our devices have been helping us succeed in all our subjects.

Above is my reflection about my Netbook. I have done before and after, so that you can see the differences between my 1st story and my 2nd story. I have explained the 2nd story and I have added a few more paragraphs.

Cause and Effect Chart.

Cause and Effect Chart
This week for reading we have been reading about, how farming effect the environment. I have made a cause and effect chart about what has happens, and how it effects the public. I have listed down a number of things.

Cause

Effect

Sprinklers have sucked all the water from underground. To produce water for sprinklers.

Since all the sprinklers have sucked the water there is grass for cows, but none for the environment.

People that are living on hills have been cutting pohutukawa trees, to get a better view.

Contaminated/Unstable soil is a problem for health and people, because it is causing major dust storms.

Now that sprinklers have sucked all the water, the farming industry is starting to get water from Rivers, Streams, and lakes.

This has caused White Bats,  Eels and more species that live in lakes/streams to die.

Sometimes farmers often drain too much water from underground. To make land dry enough for stock and cropping.

Too much water taking can lead to the lost of very important wetland.

Soil Erosion is a ongoing problem in  New Zealand. 200 and 300 tonnes of oil is taken out to sea every year.

Even though there is a lot of soli lost, farming industry continues to be the leading cause of erosion.
